Udeng

Jatiluwih, Bali, Indonesia. 2022

I noticed his udeng first, the headcloth Balinese men tie for temple days and ceremonies, and then how still he was standing while he looked out over the fields. I photographed him from the side with the terraces behind.

At 70mm the fields melt into stripes of green. He stays sharp and they become the background they are for him every day.
